Prometheus
I was thrilled to learn today that Ridley Scott is filming a sort of prequel to the first Alien movie. The first film in the series has always been my favorite. The "Alien" movie was a good thriller/horror film and an excellent science fiction film rolled into one. The other movies in the series became mostly "Hollywood" style thriller/horror, set in the future. Ridley Scott directed only the first movie and it's nice to see him return to the thriller/scifi world. For 32 years I hoped he would return to this genre.
My wife and I saw the original Alien film when it was still in narrow release in 1979 and had not exploded across the county yet. We saw it in San Francisco at a theater near Chinatown. I remember being so freaked out when the "chest buster" popped out that we seriously almost left the theater. We actually got out of our seats and stood in the aisle for a bit. But then the move calmed down and so we decided to try and stick it out.
This new movie is about explorers in a ship called "Prometheus" who travel to far ends of space to explore mankind's development and DNA development. Stories from Hollywood describe a large set that was built that will contain a "Space Jockey" from the original film. There is also a humanoid robot character, as in the original movie.
The film is set for release next June. I guess after 32 years, I can wait a few months more.
