| Los Alamos votes to stick with this type of Leisure Pool. |
Unofficial results were posted at the Justice Center for the Leisure Pool Bond vote. The Bond vote failed to pass by a hefty margin.
Out of 6090 mail in votes cast only 2,239 (or 36.77 percent) voted yes on the Leisure Pool Bond. 3,851 voted against the Bond (63.23 percent).
Looks like the richest county in the nation is unwilling to pop for this improvement to the town's amenities. I guess that is how the town got rich in the first place!

A fellow Planning and Zoning Commissioner last night noted that he thought the vote amounted to "Log Rolling" in that the question asked of voters was actually two, two questions rolled into one: 1) Do you want a leisure pool and 2) Do you want to pay for it with debt and increased property taxes.
These two questions should have been asked separately.
The County has plenty of money to pay for the leisure pool out of GRT without raising property taxes. Voters should have been give an opportunity to choose this route for funding the project, but we were not given this option for some reason.
My understanding is that years ago a bond election to build the Blue Whale swim center was initially voted down by County voters, but the County had plenty of money to build it anyway and went ahead a few years later and did build it without issuing debt and raising property taxes.
What do we know for sure right now? We know the voters did not want to raise their taxes in order to have a leisure pool. Unfortunately, because of the way the election question was structured, that's all we really know. Because of this I believe the leisure pool question will continue to haunt the County in the future.
Please vote in my Leisure Pool poll on the right hand side.

Possibly the vote reflects the percentage of residents who use the pool vs. those who do not.
